This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairdresser. Students must achieve all mandatory units which include:
Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to advise and consult with clients and then provide a complete hairdressing service which includes, shampooing and conditioning, colouring, cutting and setting and dressing, and styling and finishing hair. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed.
In addition to completing mandatory units, learners are required to achieve nine credits from optional units which include (this list is not exhaustive): remove hair extensions, relax hair, perm and neutralise hair, plait and twist hair, and temporarily attach hair to enhance a style.

This qualification covers specific skills necessary to become a senior designer. The qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of hairdressing and develops more detailed and enhanced technical skills necessary for employment. Your skills and techniques will be assessed in a real working environment.
There are four mandatory units in this qualification for you to study including:
You will then be able to select a minimum of two optional units from a range of 10 units which includes: provide hair extension services; create a variety of permed effects; hair colour correction services.
Distance Learning plus 6 knowledge workshops and practical observations.
Course Requirement: Either 10 years’ salon experience or hold Level 3 in hairdressing for at least 18 months and be in a learning environment.
This practical based qualification is ideal for those who have responsibility for training and assessing vocational skills in environments other than the work environments (i.e. workshop, classroom or other training environment)
Distance Learning plus 3 knowledge workshops and practical observations.
Course Requirement: Must hold assessing qualifications for a minimum of three years and will need to be in a learning environment.
This practical based qualification is ideal for those who maintain the quality of assessment for their organisation.
Part time, flexible payment options available
This course is aimed at students who have left college but do not feel salon ready. The course will help strengthen your technique and understanding of the fundamentals of hairdressing in both colouring and cutting.
Before attending the course, the student will be invited for a practical assessment to identify your hairdressing needs.
